JUNIOR CAMP,
August 9-13, 2004
Mrs. Cindy English
spent the week with Corey Knupp and Isaac Rook at Camp Rapidan in Rochelle,
Virginia. Click on any picture below to view a larger version.

We arrived,
registered, and settled into the cabins at Camp Rapidan on Monday morning at
11:30. Every day the basic schedule included “Timberville Town Meeting,” flag
raising, breakfast, cabin devotions, chapel, an activity, lunch, rest/verse
time, swimming and waterslide, game room, dinner and evening service. Dwight
Smith was our evangelist for the week.
All
the kids were divided into two teams for the week. Corey Knupp and Isaac
Lunsford were the on Tree Toppers and Mrs. English was on the Log Jammers. We
all learned team cheers, which got pretty exciting. Each day was a different
activity and was scored for team points.
Monday afternoon
was the Loggers Log Run, which is a huge maze cut out of a large field. They
had to carry the log as a team and find their way through to the end. In the
evening the girls went to Old-Town Timberville for a campfire.

Tuesday morning’s
activity was the Axe Handle Agility. Each team chose an axe handle (3-4 foot
log) and had a list of things around the whole camp to measure with their axe
handle. They scored points for speed as well as accuracy.

Tuesday afternoon
was a Timber Search. Balls, marbles, and plastic figures were hidden in the
mulch pile. They had to dig and search for these items one at a time and run
back down the hill for the next team player. This evening the boys went to
Old-Town Timberville for their campfire.

Wednesday was
another exciting day. The activity was the Waterfall Wash-Out. The teams had
to line up in the pool and pass a hockey puck under their legs to the end of the
line. The last person would come forward and keep going until all had gone.
They did it again with a ball.

Wednesday evening’s
activity was relaxing. It was a fun time of several very funny skits put on by
the camp staff.

Thursday morning we
played Daring Dart Shoot-Out (another form of dodge ball). The evening activity
was washed out by rain. We stayed inside for final team scoring and awards.
Along with the team activities the kids could learn verses to help their team.
Each of the 5 activities was worth 1 point and team verses were 2 points. After
hearing the scores of the games, the Tree Toppers were in the lead by 3 to 2.
But in the end the Log Jammers said more verses and pulled ahead and won 4 to
3.

Every night after
the evening service the kids had an opportunity to preach or sing. On Thursday
night Mrs. English’s cabin sang “He’s Able”. If you look toward the left side
you will see our cabin counselor, Krystina Hader. HBC supports Krystina's
parents as missionaries to Trinidad.

Friday morning was
fast paced. We had to pack up and load vehicles. We had breakfast and went to
chapel for the last time. We left around 11:00 and headed back home. What a
wonderful week we had!!
