Mother's Day Brunch - May 9, 2009
The theme for
this year’s Mother’s Day Brunch was “Good Morning, Lord”. Kathi Banholzer
planned the theme and gathered all of the decorations. Casey Knupp helped
her get it all set up so that this morning when we got to the fellowship
hall, it looked so pretty and vibrant!
Thirty-seven ladies and
girls, (and one newborn little boy!) attended the brunch. The ladies
brought a good amount and variety of breakfast foods, and we enjoyed
eating and fellowshipping together.
After eating, Beth Oliver
read a humorous poem about a mom and a dog! Then Sonya Sumpter, wife of
Pastor Don Sumpter of Landmark Baptist Church in Mechanicsville, gave a
good devotional on Mary and Martha from Luke 10:38-42. She encouraged us
to make and take the time personally with the Lord and in His Word so that
we are able to serve Him with the right heart attitude. She encouraged us
to strive to be “Mary-arthas” in our world: ready to serve the Lord
energetically, but from a heart that takes time to listen to Him and love
Him. Then we can make a difference in the world and point people to Jesus
Christ the Savior!
We ended the morning with
a number of door prizes. Kathi got a lot of nice gifts for the “lucky”
ladies who had their names drawn from the basket. Every lady was
able to take home a cute jar filled with little chocolate
candies—something most of us ladies enjoy! There were even little
lollipops and gifts for the younger girls to take home!
Kathi ended the morning
with reading a nice poem about mothers, which was an encouragement to each
of us to strive to be godly, loving mothers to the children God has given
us.
Our next ladies’ event
will be a Dove Fellowship at Dorothy Wade’s home on Saturday, August 1, at
5 PM. Make plans to come if you can!
