Dove Fellowship - June 5, 2010
Every three months or so we try to meet
in the home of one of our church ladies for a time of fellowship. The
lady who hostesses the Dove Fellowship chooses the menu, the activities
for the evening, and the devotional topic or the person to give the
devotional. Last night, June 5th, we met at Ariel Gilley’s
home. Ariel chose as the theme for the evening, “Marred Vessels in the
Potter’s Hands”. She put a lot of work into preparing us for the evening,
beginning with handing out invitations to the church ladies two Sundays in
advance telling of the theme, the activities, and the menu. Then the
Sunday before the Dove Fellowship, Ariel made up little decorative
pot-shaped reminders with some questions for us to ponder before coming to
the fellowship.
When we arrived at Ariel’s home, she had
prepared a number of nice dishes to go with the sandwiches and desserts
that we brought along with us. We began the evening with eating and
fellowship. Then we split up into two teams. The one team went upstairs
and played games together that Valerie Hatcher had prepared. We had a lot
of fun and laughter playing the two games: one game on the order of
Pictionary where we molded the household object we were to portray instead
of drawing it. In the other game, we drew pictures of the place that we
were to describe.
The other team, Team B, stayed downstairs
and decorated clay pots. Diana Psotka did the preparations for this
activity, and Casey Knupp helped her. The ladies had a great time and made
some lovely decorated pots.
Following the activity, we all met in
Ariel’s living room for our devotional time. Ariel prepared a wonderful
devotional on the Potter, our Lord God, and His working in the lives of
His creation. She challenged us, as saved ladies, to seek to be holy and
pure vessels for the Lord, and for us to allow Him to mold us, even
trusting Him in the trials that He permits in our lives in order to make
us more useful in His service. Ariel printed out the main Bible verses and
the songs that she chose on decorative paper for each of us to have.
The evening was a real blessing, and a
time of refreshment and worship of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Consider if you would like to have a Dove
Fellowship in your home sometime. It is a great way to express your love
and hospitality to your Christian sisters!
