I WILL CALL

Psalm 18.3-6

INTRODUCTION

                               1. David makes 2 strong statements of determination:

· I will love thee, O Lord. 1

· I will call upon the Lord. 3

                               2. Last week we looked at David’s determination to love. Today look at the determination to call.

                               3. We should call upon the Lord because we love Him.

                               4. We should call upon the Lord because He is worthy to be praised. I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised.

                               5. We should call upon the Lord because we can forget or put off or not be as fervent or as determined to call.

                               6. Also, we should call upon the  Lord because we have problems and we need God’s help.

                               7. Notice some reasons for calling upon the Lord:

                  I. WE FACE ENEMIES

                               1. So shall I be saved from mine enemies. 3

                               2. David faced the wrath of a scorned and jealous king.

                               3. The greatest enemy anyone can face is sin and hell, yet anyone can call upon Jesus Christ and be saved.

               II. WE FACE SORROWS

                               1. The sorrows of death compassed me... The sorrows of hell compassed me about... 4,5

                               2. David felt like he was surrounded by sorrows so bad he likened it to death and hell.

                               3. Life often serves us sadness and sorrows. We are saddened for ourselves and for others.

             III. WE FACE FEARS

                               1. The floods of ungodly men made me afraid. 4

                               2. Sometimes “when it rains, it pours.”

                               3. We can be very afraid when troubles come like overwhelming floods.

              IV. WE FACE DEATH

                               1. The snares of death prevented me. 5

                               2. David felt like he was walking through land mines, death traps.

                               3. We can feel very helpless and vulnerable and longing for death to come.

                V. WE FACE DISTRESS

                               1. In my distress, I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God. 6

                               2. This is the time to call upon the Lord.

                               3. This is the time to think on Him Who is worthy to be praise.

                               4. This is the time to argue ourselves back to God.

                               5. This is the time to cling to our faith and our God.

CONCLUSION

                               1. David said, I will cry unto the Lord, because he was convinced God heard him.

                               2. David was very specific with his faith in God’s hearing Him.

· he heard my voice out of his temple, and

· my cry came before him, even into his ears.

                               3. Send your voice to God’s temple.

                               4. Send your cry to God’s ears.
