JOB – “DON’T QUIT!” The Test of the Best 1. Introduction: Written with Feeling Job!
I. Introduction to Job -Suffering is the blight of life. - Poetry is the language of the soul. -What is the root of suffering? (sin; disobedience) -What is the purpose of suffering? (maturity; James 1:2-4)
A. Purposes of Job 1. To learn profound lessons about God; 42:1-6. -“To some extent, Job does not seek to answer the “why” questions of human suffering. It does, however, answer the “Who” question.” 2. To learn how to view and respond to suffering—our own and others’.
B. Literary Style of Job 1. Job is one of the OT poetic books. 2. Job bears all the features of OT poetry: meter, parallelism, figurative language.

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS: -Suffering is the blight of life. -Poetry is the language of the soul (soul: mind, will & emotion). -Emotion is a gift from God. -We are not to be driven or controlled by our emotions. -We are to make decisions and choices with a will that is obedient to God’s truth, despite our feelings. *Human beings are emotional beings, and appropriate feelings will follow appropriate decisions. John 7:17
