Five ladies from Hanover Baptist braved the elements Saturday and traveled to Camp Rapidan for the fall ladies retreat. We relied on God’s protection, and He answered and blessed us with a safe and enjoyable day. We enjoyed warm fellowship, a lot of delicious food, and wonderful, encouraging sessions from our speaker, Claudia Barba.
The theme of the retreat was “Satisfied” and Claudia talked about how lasting and true satisfaction can only be found in God, not in the many other things we often turn to for satisfaction. In the first session, Claudia challenged us to live simply. We should live with contentment and practice the “Pilgrim Principle” - we are in this earthly life for a short time, and we need to travel with only what we really need. Otherwise we become weighed down and distracted, and our “stuff” can actually steal our time, energy, and peace.
In the afternoon session, we looked at Psalm 19 and saw how God’s Word can transform our life and influence our choices. It keeps us satisfied and stable. Claudia talked about meditating on the Word and letting it get into our mind, emotions, and will; and about memorizing Scripture.
We all thanked God on our way home for not only blessing us with safety but with such a great day.
